@ranchlifetexas: The American pika 🐇 (often mistaken for a rabbit!) is actually more closely related to hares and lives in alpine regions above 8,000 feet. I spotted this adorable little guy on the road to Sperry Glacier—just a couple hundred feet from the ice itself. ❄️ He grazed me with his presence and I fell in love. 💛 Pikas are tiny, tough survivors of the mountains. They don’t hibernate—instead, they spend the short summer gathering “hay piles” of grasses and flowers to store in their rocky homes for winter. 🌿 They’re also extremely sensitive to heat, which makes them a key indicator species for climate change.
