OK. so wash your damn pans....WITH SOAP and scrubbies...the whole soap thing stopped being valid when the harshest dish liquid became more mild than the most mild of soaps...in like the 60s....Seasoning your pan is key cuz if seasoned properly they're better than any non stick you've ever run across...has the best flavor IMO and mine are 6 generations old still looking brand new

When I was in Costa Rica they used a dishwasher paste, like Axion with a nylon scrubber. That’s all I use now

You don’t have to avoid soap, that was only back in the olden days when soap was made with lye. Warm water, a pan scraper to get the stuck bits off, then a sponge with soap. Pop it back on the stove to dry. Once it’s cooled add a little oil and rub it in.

if you're using a lot of oil start using oil solidifies to harden it and make it easier to toss. For normal grease, just rehear the pan so the oil is liquid and easier to stop up or pour off (not into your sink). Then like everyone else is saying, just clean the rest with soap and water. also I dedicated one dish brush to ONLY cleaning cast iron. Save your other dishes.

I wash it wit soap and water and put a very light coat of crisco on it afterwards. We’ve done it this way since my great-great-grandmother.

you can use soap! there used to be lye soap which is what ruined cast irons, but that’s not an issue anymore!

you can use soap to degrease after wiping excess oil out but to get really hard stuff off you should use coarse salt and a sponge.
