I mean, as long as they are not stopping smart and effective people from climbing the ladder, I see no issue. Like they’re getting paid for their loyalty, paying taxes so are productive for society and they seem happy. Cons? Multi billion dollar companies have to spend more money.

Rewarding loyalty with loyalty is great, but just keeping them around doing nothing is pretty disrespectful and wasteful. It would be a lot nicer to offer them a decent early retirement bonus and have them spend time with their families instead of wasting it at a desk doing nothing all day.

I’ve worked for a Japanese company. I get it. This workers have corporate memory. I don’t think is bad per se this is this is the opposite of American companies that as soon as they want to raise their stock price despite the company doing well first go to is a round of layoffs.

Not saying I recommend this practice, but it may be good for their health. Maintaining social contact and staying active in society is great for mental and cognitive wellbeing, which are linked strongly to physical health. Would love to see some studies about this
