@historyyistimeless: On January 17, 1990, French extreme sports pioneer Jean-Marc Boivin set his sights on Angel Falls in Venezuela — the tallest waterfall in the world at over 3,200 feet. He had already skied down Everest, paraglided from K2, and BASE jumped the Eiffel Tower. This time, he wanted to paraglide from the very top of Angel Falls. Boivin launched from the summit, but strong winds caused his canopy to collapse. He struck the cliff and crash-landed in the jungle below. Though rescuers reached him, his injuries proved too severe, and he passed away hours later at just 38.
