It’s actually quite normal in China. Once I complained about the quality of food in a restaurant (it’s not as fresh as I expected) , the staff apologized, cooked a new dish for me which is totally free, and sent me a dessert!

I’m all for good customer service or let’s say basic respect and care for others, but behind this it’s the high fear for bad reviews from all service providers and product sellers in China. Unhealthy competition, extremely long working hours, low pay… Reality for most ordinary people in China. I’ve lived abroad for too long and I’m being surprised every year when I go back - anything you purchase online can be refunded free of charge, for certain types of products like cloths return rate is as high as 70-90% now. Great service yes, but people are struggling to make ends meet or enjoy life outside of work. I see changes experienced by family and friends in China, those in business are affected more by the good rating pressure and unhealthy competition. Just want to give some insight to the other side of the story…
