Awolowo went to the conference without having even spoken to his compatriots. While the colonial government was looking for disagreement between them and reason not to grant independence, Awolowo, by the way he came without having spoken to his compatriots, demonstrated the disagreement they were looking for to deny independence. He never tried to understand the north but expected to lead them.

Awolowo was the first politician to decamp, cos of his own selfish reasons, and he was the one that told the Nigeria military head of state Goen to block relief and food goofing into Biafra, in war, there is no blockage of food, but awolowo insisted . Thinking Gowon will make him president after the war.
