@drdoireann: Atopic Dermatitis, commonly referred to as Eczema, can be so tricky to treat. Steroids are safe and effective but long term use has complications like thinning of the skin. A lot of people want to avoid long term steroid use or look at steroid sparing options. If this is you, ask your doctor about Tacrolimus (trade name Protopic). This is a prescription medication.
