As a psychology student: there’s no such thing as not being able to retain info (unless you have a severe brain trauma caused by a physical incident) because your brain‘s neurons literally wire and re-wire and expand when you study/learn new skills. It’s our nature to learn and our brain is build to constantly learn. You simply have to repeat it often to „retain“ it (ie. Spaced repitition) or else your brain will see this info as „not important“ and throw it away again.
