Went to Kazakhstan this year and while tipping is not required or expected like in the US, they really appreciate it. Our tour guides told us that the minimum wage isn’t really great even in the bigger cities like Astana and Almaty, so they are really happy when people tip them.

Kazakhstan is such a fascinating country to me, especially the people. Physically, their features are Asian, but their accent carries that ex-Soviet twang. I know that’s not abnormal for Central Asia but I find it so interesting compared to what we know and are “accustomed” to here in the West.
