This is how we fill our raised beds! 🌱 Make sure the bed is level before filling it so you don’t have compost spilling out on one side while the other side hasn’t reached the top 🌱 Add a layer of cardboard at the bottom to suppress weeds and grass - no digging required! In fact it’s better not to dig in order not to disturb the soil life. If you don’t have direct access to soil (e.g. your garden is concrete or you’re up on a terrace), there’s no need to add cardboard. 🌱 If you happen to have any spoil (from digging a pond for example!) you can add it to your raised bed at this point - a great way of getting soil for free! 🌱 Add a layer of manure - as much as a third of the bed can be manure. You can pick this up for free from local stables, or buy in bulk from a local horticultural suppliers and they will normally deliver to you. If you don’t have a driveway check with your local council if you can have a delivery on the street or your allotment entrance - it only takes a day to shift for one raised bed! 🌱 Opt to buy your compost in bulk: it’s three times cheaper AND you eliminate single use plastic from the equation, and again it will be delivered (check with council about putting on the street if you don’t have a driveway) 🌱 Thjs mix will provide lots of nutrients for your veggies in the coming years! #raisedbed #selfsufficient #gyo #growyourown #growyourownfood #homestead #smallholding #garden #lovegardening #kitchengarden #veggarden #plants #igrewthis #ediblegarden #gardendesign
