@eriksinger513: Glottal conspiracy!! The little speech sound that's EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK. We don't all use it the same way, but we all use it. English, Scottish, Irish, Indian, and African actors—and non-native English speakers looking to sound a little more American—stay to the end for a couple of really helpful American accent uses of this sound! I’ve got a question. When people are on the phone, why does “Bye” suddenly turn into “mmBye”?

I heard a story during linguistics class that an American asked for a bottle in Scotland, and they thought she wanted a barrel. Because Americans roll the T in “bottle” the way Scottish people roll the R in “barrel”

I hear a lot of people pronounce “always” as “oh-ways” instead of “all-ways.” Would that be an example of a glottal stop or something else?

I only use an actual T sound at the beginning of words. Otherwise it's a D or a glottal stop. If you hear me pronounce a T properly, you should probably run.

syrian arabic uses it instead of the harder Q ق sound so like we would say "¿amar" instead of "qamar" (moon) 🥰

One thing I notice is when people say "mou-en" and "mout-n" the T in mountain falls away, and I find people from the north and west tend towards the "mou-en" pronunciation, while I myself say it more like "mout-n"
