It’s funny you post about this, an acquaintance of mine is actually touring these Viennese social housings right now and sharing it on her social media. She said that it actually has a massive positive impact on the individuals who live there as well. They report a higher level of happiness.

I’ve thought that the way to bring this into reality without going through the same conditions as Vienna is for cities to treat vacant appts and storefronts as delinquent property management. So that they can seize them if the owner can’t find a stable tenant.

The RWNJ would never allow it here. Because they know they would get into power in the city and they would corrupt the system to find a way to syphon funds from it so they believe that everyone else would as well.

I live in Winnipeg, Canada our main St, mostly on the north is all derelict buildings. I want to buy one of those buildings to have my office, they want 1.5 million for a building that has to be demolished bc it doesn't met code, it probably has all sorts of issues, it's just easier to redo. but who is going to pay so much for that? in an area that is not that good. so we are stuck in a cycle of empty overpriced buildings and I still can't find an office space close to my house
