My ex would actually laugh after I would try to bring up something he had done that I’d noticed and asking him about why he did it etc and I’d ask him why are you laughing? And he’d literally say “I’m not” 🙃

This is creepy to witness. One time my ex was being incredibly cruel to me, and I was clearly hurt and upset, he smirked and said, “You’ll never leave me.” It took another year after that, but I finally left. That smirk confused me, and now I understand..

I have tried to describe this to others, but they haven't seen it. Thanks for validating my experience. I have also watched someone with narcissistic traits decide to lie. Between one sentence and the next, we both realized what followed. Eye movement, a bit of determination, and then next sentence was the lie. It was pretty surreal to watch it unfold.

This is it! That’s how I used to understand what he was up to. His smirk, his subtle look of contempt…that. Exactly as you said. His parents and sister are the same. Wicked. But once I saw it, I knew it was a lie or he was setting me up for something bad.

one of the most confusing flashbacks I get is the look on his face when he made me think that I broke our front door. he looked excited and happy. I was so confused because at the time the expression on his face looked like "I knew something was going to happen but I didn't know that was going to happen." and then he admitted to tampering with the door and now that I listen to the recordings from that day I am convinced that he is the reason that door broke and that look on his face was because he knew that I thought it was my fault

my MIL. At one point my children and grandchildren lived with us at the time. My kids and I had gotten into an argument..not sure about what but my MIL was standing there in full smirk, giggling about it under her breath. my daughter and I both witnessed it, looked at each other and said no this is not happening. my DIL is the same way. came between my son and I.
