@ageneraldisappointment: PLEASE READ: I want to make it clear that mormon doctrine states as long as the individual is living life in alignment with the gospel, they will inherit the blessings of a temple sealing. therefore, *technically* speaking, your spouse could be a hemorrhoid of a human and you’d be good to go to the celestial kingdom as long as you stay worthy. HOWEVER, the doctrine does nothing to support women being ostracized in church bc their husbands aren’t worthy temple recommend holders. the doctrine does not soothe a wife aching over her husbands compulsive pornography use (no porn allowed in mormonism). the doctrine does nothing for the mother grieving the adult child who has left the church, and therefore the protection of the eternal family. the doctrine of eternal families SETS MORMON WOMEN UP to do the labor for their husbands, fathers, children—all of it. the mormon doctrine of eternal families IS CARRIED BY MORMON WOMEN. all a mormon gets to feel is grateful for their temple marriage, regardless of what it costs them to maintain. #deconstruction #yapping #exmormon #autumn

I recently lost my son, who was sealed to me, but I've since deconstructed. The sealing covenant and the eternal family doctrine is rearing it's ugly head. It's tripling the grief and the rage.

My dad is getting remarried and the church sent a letter to my mom asking for her permission. I knew you could get divorced but you can't un seal a couple. So in the eyes of the church the first wife had to consent for him to take another. Crazy

This is really interesting. I was raised Mormon in Utah county and was super faithful for the first 20-something years of my life and I was never taught that the sealing between parents and children gave unmarried children access to the highest level of the celestial kingdom. I was only ever taught that faithful and unmarried people would have a chance to get married during the Millenium in order to access that highest level of heaven. I’m not disbelieving you that that’s doctrine, it’s just a piece of doctrine I had legitimately never heard before. But I had it drilled into my head many, many times that unmarried people couldn’t make it to the highest level of the celestial kingdom at all no matter what. It’s easy to buy into the idea that a heavily top-down religion like Mormonism leads to very orthodox beliefs between all members, but it’s fascinating to see how that’s not always true and not everyone raised Mormon is always taught the exact same things.

Watching your videos explains a lot of my grown issues with growing up Mormon. It never occurred to me to tell my therapist I’m a deconstructed Mormon😳

right??!!! they attach eternal family to the craziest of doctrines to create an emotional reaction… and you think it’s the spirit when it’s actually just the fear of losing your family

After deconstructing and leaning more into studying spirituality, the “families can be together forever” thing can be applied to past lives. There has been a lot of research that souls have “families” that travel through time together.

my dad told me at 15 that if I wasn’t getting temple married to not even invite him. 😅 Turns out he was just being dramatic & ended up being the cool parent when I got civil married 4 years later 🤣🤣🥲

Girl, are you me!? I specifically chose my (mormon at the time) husband with the same criteria as you. Having a calm, loving family now has healed so much of my childhood trauma.
