@meagan_rdh: POV: “I just want a cleaning” - Dental offices are medical facilities and we have to abide by set standards of care. There isn’t an a La carte menu that you can just pick and choose from when it comes to dentistry. #fyp #pov #dentist #dental #dentalhygienist
Say it louder for the people in the back🙌🏻 Dentistry IS healthcare and you do not get to choose of an ala carte menu

Unfortunately dental care isn’t affordable. This is why so many people don’t go.

As someone who doesn’t have insurance I can somewhat understand just wanting a cleaning. You can’t always afford more. I also understand the dentist wanting to do a full exam but not everyone can afford that. Isn’t something better than nothing in some cases? Like I said I see both sides and understand why they want the exam.

Aaand this is why I haven’t been to the dentist for a cleaning in maybe 10 years. A cleaning has to be better than nothing

The difference is a cleaning is a $200 cleaning out of pocket or X-rays, exams, and whatever treatments yall are wanting to perform would put me out of my home within a month.

It’s almost like dentists (and optometrists) are healthcare professionals with an obligation to provide a standard of care - and not a restaurant. You don’t go to your GP and refuse to let them take your blood pressure, etc.

they do this then don’t even tell you they got a tooth extracted 3 weeks ago.

My boss will often not charge for x-rays just to get patients to take them so he can see what’s going on

it’s crazy that people think they can just choose which part of a medical service they want to participate in. i’ve gotten a cleaning every 6 months my entire life and still have to see the dr every time. kinda like how they would need to take your temp if you thought you had the flu??

Anyone ever have a hygienist polish your teeth before they cleaned them ??? Happened to me recently very strange to me.

i swear i feel like we are treated like nail salon by most patients. insurance sucks i know and things are expensive, but we are licensed MEDICAL professionals and we could literally be held accountable legally if we don’t follow the standard of care aka doing what we are suppose to do.

Had a patient who kept saying she might be pregnant anytime there was an exam. Last time she told us it’s because a fortune teller told her she has twins in her future. She’s a single woman in her late 40s so I’m not sure where these twins are coming from but damn let us get bitewings 😭

This one person I saw was like you don’t need to gather all the “soft data” just clean my teeth! Literally stage three grade B boulders on every single tooth sub-g. I’m like, bro what? He got mad and walked out. I’m like oookay?

Had someone do this demanding a deep cleaning and they hadn’t been to an office in over 4 years. I did the FMX then she walked out screaming that “the customer is always right and that she doesn’t care about her insurance needing to approve the SRPs”

Try this verbiage, “part of coming into an office is so that we find problems while they are small. Small cavities unseen/untreated lead to tens of thousands of dollars in dental surgeries.. Most issues are between the teeth and can only be seen with a basic set of x-rays”. Works everytime.

I'm front desk and I always tell patients it's supervised neglect or washing the dishes with no soap to clean teeth without "the fluff"

These should be vetted by the front. Like no- office policy and legally (and also if you have insurance they can decide not to cover anything without proper diagnostic tools) we need to do a comp exam and fmx and periodontal evaluation ok thank youuuuuuu

if you visit a doc for one thing how come they don't run a bunch of general tests...dentistry is such a bizarre industry to me.

I have a question, I had a dentist do an xray and removed cavity on my upper two middle teeth but I can visibly see a cavity at the back of my teeth the bottom ones but she didn’t do anything about it. Why she ignored those two cavity
