Flat rate is ok if you’re replacing ball joints and brakes all day, but the minute I rev up the scan tool and lab scopes I’m done!

Been on hourly at a independent shop with a boss that respects and pays well for a while and I love it.. I also believe it generates higher quality repairs going out the door

I’m hourly and I wish I was flat rate, but my boss knows that he would be paying me more money if I was flat rate.

you know in the end you're talking about the stress of being paycheck to paycheck. if you handle your money right then you won't have that stress. once you have about 3 months of your bills saved for an emergency then you start to lose all worries like that.

Facts bro, the least I made flat rate in 4 years was 70 hours. Like you said every morning I show up to work I get that feeling of what if I don’t make enough today

100 percent. The constant wondering if it’s going to be worthwhile to come to work or not. The only guarantee that exists is that they have to pay you minimum wage for the time you’re there.

33yrs in business. Worked at dealership as line tech. Its all about averages. I left dealership in 2007 and worked for Indy shop as hourly. Made less money. I started a shop in evenings. Now 13yrs later I'm full time in my own shop and NO Guarantees. So its like flat rate

Yeap, that's what I negotiated with the dealership I worked at, I wanted Xxxx.xx amount guaranteed biweekly but if I made more than that on flat rate I would get paid the flat rate. It worked out well because the weeks I got all the warranty or drivability work that guarantee came in clutch!!!!
