I only write them on the list as she uses them with intention not just being a parrot.

My granddaughter will be 2 in December and I can’t imagine trying to keep a list of words. I swear she learns new words daily. I keep her, another little girl who is 2 1/2, and a little boy who just turned 2. It’s so much fun to see them learning to communicate with me and each other. Just enjoy these fun toddler days and don’t worry about a list😊

Just another mom :
I knew there was a problem right at 2 yrs old. she literally only said 15 different words daily, plus it was a gut feeling as well. 2 1/2 yrs later we are still in speech therapy ❤

The only reason I have one for my son is because speech therapy was talked about for us!

As a preschool teacher, we keep an estimate. We have to track how many words they know and how many words they can string together

Most people keep the list because they are worried about their speech not because they want to know the specific words. And it’s speaking them not recognizing them that the doctor was referring to.

Third time mama hair, I never kept track of all the words my kid said. I did with my oldest a little bit, but it was after we started with the speech pathologist just so I could tell his speech pathologist of new words he would say but otherwise I never got track.

Out of my 6 babies I only tracked with my 2 premies and the only reason I did was because they had development appointments with the hospital to make sure if they were delayed they go the intervention early and they asked specific questions that if I was asked with my oldest i wouldn’t be able to answer. I had way more fun with my toddlers when I didn’t have to track it was much less stressful.

When my son had a speech delay, I definitely counted. But when my second kid started saying 2 word sentences at 18 months I stopped paying attention. My third has easily over 100 at 18 months but I’m not counting really

yeah, that is the thing, if you kid is saying a lot of words, there is no use counting. But if some fears a speech delay, as I did, counting is useful.

It’s definitely a good thing it’s not something you’ve had to pay attention to. It’s more commen to track when a child has a speech delay. At least that’s why we tracked.
