You should get a raise every year based on inflation rates at minimum. but also a small amount every year you stay in the job.

no fr, like, my boss very clearly wants me to become a shift manager but can't promote me bc I'm only part time due to college, yet I still had to ask for a raise

The thing is, people from different demographics get treated differently when they ask for raises. It’s really important to remember this when generally advising people to just go ask for raises. This is why unions and collective bargaining are so critical.

I asked for more money after two years of working at a restaurant and they legit said “oh we don’t do that here.” Like oh!!

My suggestion is to never ask for a raise unless you are willing to threaten to quit on the spot. In the hostile work environments we are all in, they’re going to play nasty so you have to play nasty back.

only time I've ever gotten a raise I told my boss I was going to quit (I was making 8$ an hour at the time) and he oh so graciously gave me a $1 raise. Realized pretty quick I could get like 3-4 more dollars working literally anywhere else.

One time to spite the day shift people who messed up management just gave us on night shift a surprise raise because we didn’t mess up but we had the much easier job

At my job we have yearly (twice a year for new hires) salary evaluations where we usually get a raise. I didn’t think asking for a raise was still that common

my job has no opportunity for a raise unless you get a promotion (there’s only One promotion you can get, which you cannot apply for and need to be offered it.)

yeah until I got in the working force I 100% thought that your employers look at your work effort and looked at all the stuff that you did and then randomly gave you raises based on what you did on the company no you have to go to your boss and kiss their ass and go oh pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty please can I have a raise please can you add just a few extra cents to my dollar
