kristina :
Since my favorite novel is mentioned, here’s what i wrote about it. I understand the sentiments towards the ML.
But the novel was beautifully translated showing the struggles, thoughts, and emotions of these two, esp. that of Heiner. It wasn't rushed
— allowing the characters especially the
READERS to heal. It's not leaning towards validating abuse rather allowing each character to navigate and address the layers of trauma, betrayal, and losses in their lives while trying to survive and win a war... while also healing. I'm not saying you need to understand Heiner, we know he's a red flag. His is someone devoid of love, affection, and warmth since his childhood days. His is only familiar with violence, death, and blood until he met Annette.
Imagine someone like that irl. Again, not justifying his actions, rather admiring both the author and translator in capturing the complexities and conflicts of life and love. I love the novel sm. ☺
