if you want it tight around your waist it needs to be longer on the back then the front because it's flat in the front, I feel like that shouldn't be hard

You have to make the back longer than the front. Like longer than you think you need. Its much easier to take fabric off and resew it shorter than it is to add more

Adding a hefty seam allowance after getting everything measured makes things a lot easier. It’s 1000x easier to fold the fabric in and make it a little shorter than it is to try and add more. You got this!

Maybe try assembling the front panels so they fit first and then connect the back to the fron so it keeps its length? It fits u til you have to tighten the front panels idk just an idea!
