September 4, National Preparedness Level 4 (Scale 1 to 5) was declared at 7:30 am, by the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). Extremely dry conditions, high winds, low relative humidity, thunderstorms, and increased lighting strikes contributed to the ignition of these wildfires. At least 755,530 acres and 67 large wildfires are burning nationally, according to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).  On the Incident Management Situation Report, for initial attack activity 164 total fires are reported. 8 new fires have been classified as emergency response or new large incidents. Compared to the 10 year average, 1,491,955 acres less burned and 5,481 more wildfires occurred this decade. The states which are reporting current large fires include; California, Washington, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, and Oregon.
