@moneystocker: Are you adding enough to your pension? This rule of thumb is great because it shows how starting early saves you money in the long run. It says you should contribute half of your age, as a percentage of your income, into your pension. And the age you start determines the percentage you’ll contribute for life. If you start at 20, contributing 10% (as the rule suggests), then even at 50 you still only need to contribute 10% of your salary. But if you don’t start until 50, you’ll need to put away 25% of your salary to catch up. That’s because you won’t have as much time for compounding investment returns to do the heavy lifting. That’s where your returns start generating their own returns. The reality? Most people are contributing the bare minimum to their pension, if anything at all. And any pension projection will show you that 3% simply isn’t enough for a comfortable retirement. The good news: you might be surprised how little increasing your contributions affects your take-home pay, thanks to employer matching and tax relief (see the video for more!). So, my advice: start early, start now! Not financial advice, capital at risk. Guideline only. #pension #retirement #retirementplanning #PersonalFinance

This is untrue, is half at the age you started contributing to your pension, so if you start at 20, its 10% for the rest of your life, not increasing to 30% when you are 60 etc.

shouldn't it be the opposite like your age the percentage and the older you grow the less you put in because the more you put in the beginning the more time it will have to compound and grow?

pensions are a scam if you're young, I'm 24, pension age will be mid 70s by the time I get there, also the working population will halve and the retired one will double by that time, so where is that money coming from

I’d rather have a vault full of gold and bit coin, I don’t fancy working until I’m 74 just because the gov or private pension says so

Wouldn’t it be smarter to just put the money into a stocks and shares ISA and let it compound over time? Considering all the tax benefits and you can withdraw the money whenever you want

I don't get it even with minimum pension contributions you'll still have 700k+ at 55 with the current level of returns which is more than enough for a mortgageless pensioner to live a good quality of life with the state pension and other forms of savings

5% through state to get the extra 3% from work then 10% into private.

There is just a massive push into private pensions since it helps the Gov reduce state pension and cut taxes
