Thanks for the explanation! I am an avid Tunisian crocheter because I love cables and knit stitch (stockinette) colorwork, but not a huge fan of knitting. I've done quite a bit of brioche crochet though, and this looks similar. I absolutely love it!

FWIW, if you know how to do linked crochet stitches (ie:linked double or linked treble), you basically also know Tunisian simple stitch
