I had severe hearing issues in the lower grades that resulted in “moderate” permanent hearing loss. I spent so many of my younger years not being able to hear because of ear infections, surgeries, or the multiple treatments drs tried. No one ever taught me ASL or and other way to communicate or feel included.

Oh yes! This would’ve saved so many of my students! I had one girl in particular who was so isolated. It was heartbreaking. Her family didn’t speak it, and no one at the school spoke. She was so alone.
