@united_cameroon: Nkodo Sitony was a Cameroonian Bikutsi artist, one of the greatest voices to ever carry that traditional rhythm from the Beti people (Center and South Cameroon). Unlike Manu Dibango’s international fusion, Nkodo focused on keeping Bikutsi deeply rooted in Cameroonian identity, while modernizing it just enough for radio and stage performances. He rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s, alongside Meguet Ndoumbe, with whom he formed a powerful duo that shook the Bikutsi scene. Songs like “Metil Wa,” “Bikut-si Don,” and “Minkoul Yeme” made him a household name. -Sitony helped bring Bikutsi to the urban stage in Yaoundé and Douala. He gave it structure, energy, and lyrics that could be played on national radio, making it a national treasure rather than just regional folklore.
