Pets are the same responsibility as a child. They get sick and vets are so expensive. I paid my cat sitter $50 a day when I went out of town. That’s 1,500 for a month. Vets cost st least $150 just to walk in the door. When pets get old, you really can’t travel. I lost thousands of dollars for last minute cancellations of vacations with prepaid costs due to health issues with pets. And when they die it is heartbreaking. I have had pets since I was a child and have had at least 10 cats and many dogs. They are worth it but it is a relief not to go through health stress with them. I spent $10,000 in the last month of my last cat’s life and she died anyway. I just couldn’t do it any more.

Cats are great because they pretty much look after themselves all you need is a litter box and cat food and water and they’ll love you

Do it! Yes, you have to feed them and clean the litter box and keep them enriched and take them to the vet, but they bring so much joy that it's well worth it. You can work out the pet-sitting situation when you want to travel.

I adopted my cat 2 years ago and it has been the best decision I’ve ever made. The advice I can give you to choose “the one” is to let them choose you. Do not go for looks, gender or size, but more for how they feel about you and your husband. When I was in the process of adopting, I held every cat in my arms and there was one that immediately started purring and would not stop, I gave him to my partner and it was the same. Right then we knew he was the one 🥰

stinky litter and hair everywhere for better part of two decades. They start peeing everywhere when they get old. never again. living without cat hair everywhere is top tier.

I am 42 and got my first pets. Cats are amazing, I would recommend getting two though, as they keep each other company and can play fight and play. They can be left overnight. Pine pellet cat litter is cheap and has no smell

There will be a lot of cleaning. Cats will rule you, you can’t rule them. They will be fine when you go away (pet sitters obv). But it’s the best thing that’ll happen to you ❤

Travelling while having a cat is pretty hard, they don't do well with changing their environment, so you need to think who is going to take care of it while you are gone, you take longer vacations to Bulgaria, so that means 3 weeks of someone taking care of it... We have one, and let me tell you... We had to pay 240lv in the emergency because he was depressed because we left him for a week🙈😁he hates everyone except for me, hates strangers at home, pees everywhere while we are away... 😾

I have two and i love them to death but I was naive in my expectations regarding cost. Everything is affordable as long as they’re healthy but when you adopt you don’t know what potential underlying conditions or diseases they might have. I’m treating my cat for FIP right now and it was something already in him not something he caught. As a budget girlie, get insurance and have a cat fund, enjoy them and good luck!

I love my pets! But one thing I wish I would have known about more is what aging can really look like. It’s so hard to see something you love start to struggle.

The only thing is if you travel much you have factor in the cost of a sitter. Amd money for the vet. Thats it. Cats are very easy.
