That “flat piece of silver” is actually the flattened top to a Morton salt container (the cardboard ones). They still make them today, and made of aluminum. As a fellow digger, I get them almost every time i’m out, lol

think you should use gloves. you're picking up items that carries energy either good or bad you just won't know. sometimes some things where made to stay buried. some items could be cursed. but hey to each its own.
