Attendance not mandatory + exams being 85%-90% of your grade w the final replacing your lowest midterm exam grade is my preferred setup.

I’m a doctoral student and while I don’t skip class the traditional way, I do submit discussion posts late. I do not adhere to the 3 day posting rule. I get to it when I get to it 😂

I agree with you. Granted I loved going to class and generally tried to make it, but grading people on attendance is diabolical, especially in a gen Ed course

My chemistry prof. did not have an attendance policy, but she said you'll come to class if you want to pass. I missed one day when I was sick and I was behind 3 chapters 😭 never missed again

I really don’t mind professors that make attendance mandatory, I just hate when they essentially say the only valid excuse for missing class is that you’re either on your death bed in the hospital or your entire family just died. Like I’m not wasting my time and money on a doctors note when I know it’s just the flu.

Yes! One of my favorite professors (for this and many other reasons) says, "I'm like a server. You already paid for your meal (education)—I'm not going to hold your hand and force you to eat the food. Whether or not you eat the food is up to you."

I've had a few classes where they just read off their PowerPoint, after a couple of weeks i just show up for tests/quizzes like im just paying for a PP at this rate

it’s actually one of my pet peeves, I had at least 2 classes that I failed with a prof who did required homework and retired attendance and then retook with a prof who did recorded lectures and either optional or small credit homework and would get As because the reduced stress and ability to plan my schedule was such a huge boon for me. I always tried to mention it possitively in their evaluations in a way that hopefully wouldn’t get them in trouble
