Block is trash. You got everything wrong here except the don’t start before 8:30. Daily classes 45-50 minutes is where it’s at. And advisory is an absolute wast of time. No need to build that in.

We do 90 minutes in my middle school and it’s TERRIBLE, anytime we have an activity day on Friday we have them for 70 minutes and it’s like heaven

70 minutes does get tricky with PE. There is only so much exercise that can happen for 70 straight minutes. We don’t change out because we have mixed classes. I agree with 8:30 start though. We go 8-3. Way too long of a day.

55 minute periods here. 7 classes a day 5 days a week. Teach 5 and 2 planning. I love it.

Block schedules are absolutely the best. But the the full schedule Fridays end up being all assessments for all students and their performance suffers with that much stress

All of these options are great for on-grade-level and advanced-level kids. But for at-risk, behind-grade-level kids, you need more spaces to earn credits. Six, seven and/or eight slot blocks or straight classes are inferior to ten period blocks, five classes a day, where multiple remedial classes can occur and/or ten credits can be attacked at once. Any high school that goes to a 10-period block will see an increase of kids moving from 9th to 10th on grade level, and an increase in graduation rate.

We start at 8:15am and end at 3:35pm. We started on September 2nd and go until June 14th (graduation Sunday). We don't start winter break until Dec 24 and return Jan 6. How do you start at 8:30 and end before 3 every day?

My son’s school starts at 830, and Mon, Tues, Thursday, Fridays are block schedule and then Wednesday is all classes, minimum day. He likes it a lot.

A seven period rotation only allows seven credit spots. 5x5 allows ten. Better for at-risk kids. 10 period block, five classes a day is the superior high school schedule. It’ll drop your failure rate and increase your graduation rate.👍

I liked my high school schedule of 6 hour long classes everyday. When I student taught, it was block schedule with semester long classes 🙄 When I went to teach at my old high school, they had gone to 7 classes for 48 minutes. They do not need 7 classes. 6 is enough.
