Happens all the time. Escalator I was on yesterday suddenly stopped and we all had to walk. I guess the orange dictator doesn’t like doing stairs.

I was an elevator/escalator mechanic for 40 years. After viewing this clip, the videographer possibly stalled the handrail when he lost balance. This would trip the stall safety. The handrail would need adjusted appropriately. Maintenance is required. ( probably a non union contractor maintains this equipment)

the safety switch is at the very top and would be impossible to hit heading in that direction. believe me I've been an escalator maintenance technician for 36 years.
