let me explain it if your confused earlier he heard his daughter in the door and he didn't open the door when he heard Faye was in danger the mimic enter on its own using the window and devoured him then Faye saw the voice mail and when she comes home that's why she's laughing because he didn't even lock the door and that's where Faye enter the kitchen and she was killed (just my opinion I didn't watch the full so yeah that's what I think)
