My granddad wasn’t on the spectrum he just got his hair cut the same day every week by the same barber, same cut, cleaned his car full detail refill the car on the same day and would lose it if there was a holiday and things were closed.

I had to tell my husband, who was diagnosed with autism when he was 2, that his grandfather was likely also autistic. He asked how I knew, and I said “he built a shed to store his lawnmower collection” and my husband was silent for like 5 minutes.

My grandpa wasn’t on no spectrum. He just had 6 subject notebooks with all the pick 4s in it for the last 20 years and attempted to come up with an algorithm to predict the pick 4 based on the previous numbers.

Hispanic families are like this too. “That’s not autism, he just gets upset when people touch his stuff” “He’s not autistic mija, he just likes to make the same noise, over and over, cus he likes it.” “No, no autism didn’t exist back in my day, like my mother had to have a strict schedule and if it wasn’t exactly the same every week then she would have a breakdown” (not verbatim what my gma said but she literally said “and does THAT sound like autism to you?” Like, yes.) “Oh yeah my sister needed to wear the same brand and type of shoes, the same brush, the same shampoo and the same outfits that she altered on her own, but that’s just being picky” no ma’am that was autism.
