If you’re paying for a lymphatic massage, PLEASE know what should actually be happening during your session. 👀 Moving fluid around is NOT the same thing as properly supporting lymphatic drainage. Think of it like a car: you can sit inside, grab the wheel and be ready to go… but if you never start the car, you’re not getting very far. 🚗💨 Here’s what I want you to pay attention to: 1️⃣ Your therapist should prepare the drainage pathways first. Gentle work around key lymphatic areas helps prepare the system before working on areas where you’re holding fluid. 2️⃣ Lymphatic drainage should be GENTLE. Your lymphatic vessels are superficial. This isn’t supposed to feel like deep tissue or like someone is beating the swelling out of you. More pressure does NOT automatically mean better drainage. 3️⃣ There’s a difference between moving swelling and directing it appropriately. Especially after surgery, your normal drainage pathways may be altered. Your therapist should understand where they’re directing fluid not just push it around your body. 4️⃣ If you temporarily look less swollen but fill right back up, pay attention. Post-op swelling can absolutely fluctuate for many reasons, so returning swelling doesn’t automatically mean the massage was done wrong. But a good lymphatic session should have intention, proper sequencing and appropriate pathways behind every movement. 5️⃣ Ask questions. “Where are you directing the fluid?” “Why are you starting here?” “What lymph nodes/pathways are we working toward?” A knowledgeable therapist should be able to explain what they’re doing and WHY. Your post-op lymphatic massage shouldn’t just look good on Instagram. There should be anatomy and intention behind it. 💆🏻‍♀️ And if they’re aggressively pushing fluid around without understanding the lymphatic system? Baby… you might need a new lymphatic girl. 😂 #lymphaticdrainage #lymphaticdrainagemassage #postopcare #utahmassage
