learning a polyphia song by ear sounds like a fools errand

My advice for young guitar players is to quote Jake the dog: sucking at something is the first step at being kinda good at it.

This is so true, theory doesnโ€™t mean shit if you canโ€™t HEAR it. Tabs are great but thereโ€™s no greater party trick than relative pitch kids

I started out self taught and learned a lot by ear it helps so much, I don't have perfect pitch but it's relative I can hear a song and play something close to it

Great advice. I would add sing as much as you can even if you never plan to sing professionally. Sing harmony, too. Owning your pitch against another pitch is SO good for your ear. PLUS being able to sing backup makes you much more employable as a touring hired gun.

learning theory by ears did wonders, learn your scales modes and chords and everything will open up to you

The only thing any guitarist needs to know is what avenues to take to accomplish their own goals. Do you wanna be a great songwriter? Do you wanna improvise? Do you wanna write rock songs, metal, etc? Then pursue those goals with their adjacent skill set.

Learn all your scales up and down the fret board. And all chords too. It builds muscle memory and strength in your playing.

play by ear and feel. play 3 to 4 notes then repeat it for 4 to 5 mins. Then build on it. You can play any instrument, using this technique.

I recommend everyone to get familiar with your scales in all positions of the guitar as well as appergios. I legit leveled up my guitar skills after a year cause of it

I think what heโ€™s sayin is get the tabs but also that all great musicians a lot of the time learn their instruments by ear. Iโ€™ve only ever had maybe 4 lessons in total? Everything else, obviously starting with easier songs before getting into metal, learned by ear. Definitely helped me out at first.
