Auggie Jett :
If dealerships and manufacturers can collect our location, driving habits, and sell our vehicle data, consumers deserve the same transparency in return: before we sign, both dealers and manufacturers must provide an itemized disclosure of every cent they will earn or charge from that sale including invoice or auction cost, profit margin, financing interest and dealer markups, warranties, LTE/data plans, insurance commissions, add-ons, marketing/administrative fees, factory-to-dealer incentives or holdbacks, and the full breakdown of manufacturing costs to build, make, and sell the vehicle. This must also include any fees for software or feature unlocks installed but locked behind subscriptions or paywalls, as well as transparency on how trade-in vehicles are valued and resold. No more hidden markup. No more surprise profits. No more opaque financing tactics or subscription traps.
And on the data front, consumers must have clear, upfront disclosure about what data is collected including location, driving behavior, biometric, and in-cabin data who it is shared or sold to, and meaningful options to opt out. Vehicles that monetize personal data should not be sold without explicit consumer consent.
To be crystal clear, I still wouldn’t buy a new or used vehicle that collects location or driving data and sells it full stop.
