@charles_dowding: Mustard Sinapis alba for a fast growing cover of leaves and stems, plus plenty of roots that you never see, all adding organic matter to the soil. It’s free energy from the sun through photosynthesis at the backend of a year. Here it’s zone 8 and last sowing date for worthwhile growth is around 10th October. See my 2026 calendar of sowing dates for all vegetables and one or two cover crops like this. Filmed @nicolalsmith at Homeacres #mustard #covercrops #nodig #growyourown #nodiggardening
Love this. Moving to a new property soon with a massive garden. Looking forward to managing it sensibly so tips like this will be so useful 😍

Did you sow these in France as well? We’re in Liguria, second winter here. No frost last winter in the garden, wonder if that means I shouldn’t sow these? Making our no dig patch bigger every day! 🥰🥰🥰
