Sourdough Made Easy Pt. 1 🍞 Welcome to this little sourdough series 🫶🏻 If you’ve been curious about sourdough or you’re trying to get the hang of it, I’m breaking my entire process down into 4 videos and walking through each step in detail so it feels approachable. Save this to come back to while you’re learning, and follow along for the rest of the series because next we’ll be mixing our dough and starting stretch & folds! A few starter maintenance tips that really helped me when I was learning: • If your starter is well established and active, regular bread flour is completely fine for feedings. • If your starter is newer or needs strengthening, adding a little rye or whole wheat flour into your flour mix can really help. I usually wouldn’t go over about 30% of the overall flour mix. You won’t really notice a flavor difference in your bread, but it can make a big difference in starter strength and activity. • You also do NOT need to feed and discard your starter every single day unless you’re baking super regularly. I usually only bake about once a week, so after baking I feed my starter, store it in the fridge, and then take it back out the day before I want to bake again. (if you feed daily without baking often, you’ll probably just end up with way more discard than you actually need) Leave any questions you have below and I’ll answer as many as I can 🫶🏻 See you in part 2 where we’ll mix our dough and start stretch & folds! #sourdough #sourdoughstarter #sourdoughtok #cozyhobbies #baking
