You should look at the specs of the joists. Most of those are 1/8” from the flange

I don't see what the problem is. The holes are within spec for an i-joist. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this, they're engineered to handle penetrations like that.

where the hole goes is mostly determined by required slope. sometime middle of the joist isnt possible

I know what you’re saying but waste and vents have to be graded. Electrical could have easily been bent to accommodate. HVAC are always the ones to cause the problem, they chop and work to their convenience.🤙

if we need so many things to go in and around joists then maybe the standard walls need to be bigger to accommodate them. that way we still have our 8' ceilings with lots of room for "stuff"

In Canada, all of our TJ’s come with knockout holes for placement they’re even marked for you

yet another inspector who doesn't actually know specs on things. The i-joist can be cut anywhere top to bottom of the joist, but need to be a specific minimum distance from bearing based on hole diameter. Some manufacturers do require a minimum distance from the chord, but it's usually only an ⅛". You don't need to "try to be in the middle"

Weyerhaeuser says leave 1/8” minimum of web above and below Flange. Centered is preferred, but this is acceptable.

A hole in the joist web can be made 1/4" from the top or bottom flange. That said, actually in the center of the web is preferable.

It’s not going right thru tue joist. It’s ran thru a hollow space via plywood. But I wouldn’t call any of that a joist.

How many years before all these houses fall apart? Seriously with liberals big push we are going to see substandard work. BC condo crisis all over again. I live near a new subdivision being built, there is literally people working at 11pm. Piece work, taking in so much work rushing from house to house, just throw it together move to the next one get the numbers up.

You don’t get to decide what’s acceptable. The manufacturer will have engineering specs which you can download. Having read at least 20 of these specs those would most likely be fine. You can also put huge holes in these from flange to flange.

what joists are these? I'm a gasfitter and have been running lines at the bottom of the webbing for the last 10 years, all pass, also plumbing drains need to grade 1/4" per foot, how are they supposed to grade if this is the case? again maybe it's certain joists?
