@therapistinrecovery: People with anxiety (aka most of us) already spend too much time in our head trying to fix things. In fact, that’s a big part of the problem. So the solution isn’t just a bunch more analyzing or processing (there is some of this that’s important yes). Equally (or more) important is being present in our actions. Actions that portray our values like taking care of our basic needs all while making room for our feelings. Basically we have to act our way into right thinking not the other way around. #mentalhealthtips #anxietyrelief #acceptanceandcommitmenttherapy #therapistsontiktok #anxietytok

I haven’t met anyone with any kind of anxiety disorder who doesn’t spend a majority of the day problem solving and trying to think their way out of overthinking. Our society in general has over complicated just about everything. Our brains weren’t meant to be on go 24/7 yet here we are. There’s beauty and peace in simplicity.

Love this! How might we approach this with someone stuck in the loop of overthinking and refusing to engage in anything else (food, sleep, breathing, etc)?

I have agoraphobia, trapped and fire with no way out. I had it occur one time and survived. Medicine has helped the most, the other thing is to accept it, but #1 is to be aware of your thoughts and where they are starting to go and stop building the story. Just stop and think of something you enjoy doing and focus on that instead. My dreams suck though and that is when I can’t stop, but I’ve learned to let it go in morning, that it was just a dream. Keep trying and living and knowing there is help!!!!!!! Took me years to learn this.

as a chronic overthinker who finally started focusing on basic health needs and integrating nervous system/somatic work and safety, YES 💯 it’s so easy to overlook these things

I just started feeling my feelings with no judgement and they just flow through me. Now they are weak enough to not terrorize me

Yes!! All my clients expressed apprehension to return to therapy after previous “failed attempts” with CBT and DBT. I use a somatic approach and it works wonders.

Thank you for this! I suffer from anxiety and catastrophizing. I adore my therapist but there is so much focus on where this comes from. I have no clue! No deep seaded trauma. I put so much pressure on myself to figure that out that it overcomplicate things.

The 4 things I recommend: good sleep, good diet, moderate exercise and having some kind of fun (it helps if there’s a social component). Being purposefully engaged in a meaningful activity is also key.

Great advice!!!! While talk therapy has been great to understand myself better, doing IFS has gotten me more into my body and feelings.

This from a psychological perspective is fascinating since the rise of a theuraputic culture is the very reason people are fetishizing their pain to begin with and has to question much of what passes for counseling.

I feel attacked, but also ... this is amazing advice 🥲🥹 I didn't realize how bad I over analyze things and that it could be the reason why I'm not progressing in therapy! thank you for sharing this 💕
