i feel like the online community is so much harsher, even hateful, towards the LGBT community. bc meanwhile, in real life (or at least where I live), i’ve never actually run into an actual homophobic situation, or at least not as intense as it gets online. like it’s so bad online that i don’t even want to talk about it 😬

tbh, Vietnamese does have kinda a limited freedom that isnt chain and handcuffs, we are practically can express ourselves very freely, but we are stuck in a very big birdcage that anyone could slip through the gap yet it also the eco chamber for negativity

I think of it as this way: for a social movement to have long lasting effect, we must normalize before legalize. A strong push in one direction will create push back in the other. The US might have legalize for now, but the Republicans r pushing back hard. VN is taking a very careful approach by slowly encourage pro LGBT contents

what's your point? you shared so much yet you shared basically nothing 😭 I get that you have to be cautious with wording but delivery is not giving anything 😭

Never say never, it use to be banned to not encouraged to normalize but not protected by the law. Especially in these time where they are pushing for a lot of policy targeting young people, who knows if they have it in their mind to gain more support from the younger citizen.

this happened mostly to appeal to the elderly side, the students and younger people tend to be more openly accepted, with a few outlines, heck, there even university that is famous for having a lot of LGBT students

The Vietnam government is pretty open and forward thinking socially if it does not affect politics and the communist party, but probably they not allow the parade because they do not want the movement to display it brazenly and the vietnamese culture is still quite conservative.

I somewhat understand skepticism towards lgbt in the countries that have a history of adversity with the west. Often bc the west may co op a movement to stir division in a country. But the solution to this is to accept lgbt ppl so there doesn’t have to be some movement that fights the government in the first place!!

That makes sense because if you look at the history of the lgbtq movement in the us, which used to be a liberation movement for queer people. Then it was slowly incorporated into mainstream capitalist/neoliberalism view, now having part of it contains meaningless gesture like pink/rainbow capitalism. If your thesis takes place, then the only difference is that the movement in Vietnam must incorporated itself into mainstream view rather being absorbed like in the us.

In the US, if you run around with the pride flag, they’ll call you the radical leftist. Meanwhile in Vietnam, my fellow communists will accuse you to be a part of color revolution, lol. I thought communism makes you a good person, turns out it’s not

youre totally ignoring the fact that kids can see the parades and think they are lgbtq for absolutely no reason other than to be like them, it should be limited to private events, not straight out a parade in the public

Vietnam doesn't need these parades because 1. It's a vehicle for the west to foment a color revolution in Vietnam and 2. LGBTQ people can freely express themselves and are free of persecution, unlike in the US where they are losing rights

interesting point, and i kinda agree with you that the sole avenue is to incorporate the movement into the bigger nationalist idea. sounds totally feasible if they can pick up on that. esp now after the cmm incident, many ppl in the lgbtq community are speaking up about how they are good citizens, how they r, like straight ppl, contributing to the country.
