I think people forget this about their own kids too.. They don't know anything!! So we have to slow down and actually communicate. Words mean nothing if the listener has no clue what you're saying.

so I got the opposite situation. I've been around dogs horses and cows my whole life. I've learned to watch my body and their body language to communicate. my son who is now 16 is non-verbal autistic I've learned even more to watch his facial expressions and his body language to communicate with him. I'm glad I learned as a child how to communicate with the animals around me before I had my son because it makes me a better mom

I agree about humans being poor at communication. I taught over three decades and communication was never mentioned in the curriculum or by the school. Some schools modelled effective communication but again, it was never given the prominence it needs.

I started with horses and when I was an adult I started working with dogs. I did really well because of what you said. its about calmness and communication. honestly, when I had a kid I did child-rearing the same way 😅
