The art of still-life photography inspired me long before I even considered myself a photographer. During my university years (when I studied programming - yeah, quite the contrast), I'd come home after studies, take a walk through my parents' garden, and pick a few tulips (reds and pinks were always my favorite). Then, l'd brew a cup of coffee and carefully arrange a composition on the windowsill - just to calm my thoughts. I started with simple compositions, but over time, they became more complex and rich in storytelling. At some point, I realized that, even though still-life photography is an art form, I was naturally following certain principles without even thinking about them. Eventually, I decided to break these down into structured ideas - helpful little guidelines that might make the process easier for other creators just starting out. So, I want to start sharing what l've learned from years of photography and videography. And what better place to begin than with one of my favorite composition techniques: the rule of layering✨ Layering in still-life composition is the art of stacking or placing objects on top of one another to create depth, texture, and visual interest. Instead of placing items directly on a flat surface, you can introduce layers - like a wooden board under a cup and a vase, a linen cloth beneath a plate, or a notebook as a base for a candle. This technique adds dimension, guides the viewer's eye through the composition, and makes the scene feel more intentional and visually engaging. Just compare before and after in my current setup - you can see how a little layering brought depth to even this simple composition. Let me know if you find such videos helpful and what you usually find challenging when setting up a scene? I'd love to create more content like this #editingtips #contentcreationtips #contentcreatortips #cinematography #cinematicvideo #cinematiclook #howto #contenttips #pinterestinspired #creativevideo #stilllife
