So they collect the money, but provide no value. Such a good analogy to the church.

Everyone’s like “the church can afford it, the church has enough money” like, no, we really can’t. The church is broke, has been for a long time now

I mean a national park is supposed to be for conservation, it shouldn't be built there to begin with. I don't see the issue with the national park getting the money as long as they do good conservation work.

and the park owns the land, so i bet all the access roads, paths, signs, toilets, trash removal, parking, all the staff costs of security, cleaners, hospitality workers etc etc are paid by them 😉

Most people don't seem to realize the amount of money the Catholic Church needs to keep all the charity work and the maintenence of the architeture structure of the churches, it's not like it's swimming in money, especially in Brazil

its not unexpected, churches are always pretending they're broke. The community gave them all their money, at least they can maintain a statue for them

isn't a lightening strike considered an act of God. The bigger problem would seem to be that God is angry at the statue of christ the redeemer.

I don’t see a problem - it’s one country and I’m sure the church is happy to maintain the park in their country.

if the archdiocese doesn't like the deal, they can give the statue to the city. why don't they?

What if they just refused to maintain it until eventually the national park service has to start paying for it or risk losing revenue because people don't want to visit a statue that might collapse any minute?

Sugar Loaf Mountain, another peak in Rio de Janeiro and UNESCO world heritage site, gets plenty of visitors without a big Jesus.
