One of my favourite Swedish ones is “Gå som katten kring het gröt” which translates into ”walk like the cat around hot porrige”. Basically it means to avoid an uncomfortable subject out of discomfort or fear.

In Vietnamese the first phrase means "to cheat" (i.e. getting with two people at the same time) and I was so adamant in getting it right because of the geographic proximity 😭

“To pay the duck” in vietnam, the similar phase is “quýt làm cam chịu” (translated: tangerine do, orange suffer). The behind of it was: if you plant both of them, the orange-cam would be less delicious, and the tangerines- quýt will be larger and the taste would also be different, so you need to keep them separately
