I’m not sure l agree, cops were working with a reported stolen and treated the situation as such, the dealership is at fault here

Gave the dealership, my debit card as part.of the down payment. They never ran my card. Called the salesman 2 weeks later asking when they would run the card. Another 2 weeks goes by, and they call me frantically wanting to run the card. Yes, dealerships mess up

It happens we bought a 96 grand dam purple off the lot and there was another Grand Am that was sold the same day and they wrote down the wrong VIN number so we ran around with somebody else’s VIN number for two years until we finally had it corrected

🤔 Did the driver pull over when lights and siren were activated? If not? Then the accused party is responsible for the actions taken.

I don't agree with you. The dealer believed the vehicle was stolen and the dude is in possession of it. I dont think ramming it was right but they didnt know what they had at the time. I have not been this situation but guns being drawn against a felon is correct even though they were wrong about this guy.

I don’t think it is that hard to pull cameras and records before going after him everything was signed and finished all they had to do was check cameras paperwork and talking to the people who sold it to him and this could have been avoided so in my opinion he is right the cops are also at fault

Its not just car dealers, but rental companies are notorious for reporting cars stolen that arent due tracking errors after being returnes. Clearly police had no fucks to give about following the law. Should anyone really be surprised by any of this at this in the US?

To report of a stolen vehicle, the reporting party need only to show ownership. Which they did. The officer/detective takes the report and enters it into NCIC. Officers locate vehicle and respond accordingly. Now as a retired officer, I am kinda shocked by their response. In my old department we may have sent 2 or 3 officers to take down the vehicle, but we were a small department. Based on the info you've provided. I place all blame on the dealership. They should have done their own investigation before reporting the vehicle stolen.
