Undercover :
She’s a narcissist. They chose a “Golden child “ and a “Scapegoat” child. The scapegoat is always the daughter if they have one. She has been projecting her own insecurities onto you. Everything she has said you were, is how she feels about herself deep down.

Been following your story over the past few days and hearing everything you have gone through with your mom that thought did cross my mind. Don’t know if this helps but having experienced with close family mentally ill people don’t treat people the same way. We had a family member who was so delightful & friendly to everyone except his older sister. He had so much hatred for her & was convinced that she was upto something to hurt him. He had a narrative in his mind that made him take out all his hatred and frustration on her. I say all this to say it’s still possible even though she treated you and your brother so differently.

This is my issue as well, the cruelty and callousness were a CHOICE. My brother received a radically different experience and that not only made healing take so much longer, but stopped me from excusing and defending her behavior. Despite her 100% having mental illness.

narcissistic parents assign different roles to their kids depending on what kind of supply they get from them. the truth seekers and seeers are hated and are escape goats and your brother prolly was the golden child who could do no wrong.

We empathise too much by blaming a mental illness. Narcissism is an illness, bt does that mean we have to accept their games, especially when they’re able to switch their illness off and on for ppl they choose?

Such a sad realization. I’m in the same boat. Now I think it’s no wonder it was so hard growing up.

You are very hurt over your mom and that’s understandable but I would stop reasoning with the fact. Work on you, this behavior stops with you. You can’t change her. We all have to come to the realization that are parents aren’t perfect

My heart goes out to you. I suffered a similar fate with my mom. I was always blamed for everything and my persona broken down. I was always just ashamed. Ashamed of existing. Even in my marriage, she tried manipulating me and making me feel bad about my existence. Both of my parents have passed on. Forgive your mom and move far away from her. Get another job at another hospital.

my dad and I have bipolar & we both are pretty hot-headed so it wasn't a good combo + He never got therapy or worked on himself and he very inconsistently took his medicine, Are you sure you aren't additionally suffering from any mental illness? at the very least, I also have CPTSD

As we get older our metical conditions are exposed, check to make sure you don’t have the same conditions. Your mother raised you to be a beautiful, intelligent woman that’s what’s important

Duality exists , love. Two things can be true, whereas she does have something going on AND treated you (differently) and extremely badly. Sending so much love. You can find a empathy and also keep your necessary boundaries 🫂
