🦷 Covid/infection precautions at the dentist 🦷 I’m extremely high-risk and not willing to compromise my safeguards so I layered numerous precautions at the dentist, which happened during a Covid wave. These are all community sourced tips, I will share evidence where available below. NB it’s been 9 days now since the app so looks like I’ve avoided catching anything 🤞. - Used a readimask over my nose and aimed to just nose breathe once respirator off (available via the Facemask store in the UK) - Used a CPC mouthwash & antiviral nasal spray before & after appointment - Asked for windows to be open & checked the room CO₂ was low with my CO2 monitor. - Checked no one who would be in the room was sick - Wore a well-fitted FFP3 respirator until I had to remove it, and asked the people in the treatment room to wear them - Took oral probiotics in the days before & after Other things I could have done: - I forgot my hypochlorous acid spray but I would have used this on my face after - Got the first appointment of the day (not poss for me) - Nasal/sinus flushing after - Asked the dentist to use a dental dam Evidence (evidence is strong for some of the techniques, and limited/not been carried out for others, but I’m happy to try anything that might help reduce the risk. I’ve only given 1 example/technique due to capacity but ofc there are more): - Importance of ventilation (strong) bit.ly/ventilationcovid - Use of respirator masks (strong) bit.ly/respiratormasks - CPC mouth wash: bit.ly/cpcmouthwash - Antiviral nasal spray (evidence limited studies ongoing): bit.ly/nasalspraycovid - Oral probiotics (evidence for better outcomes rather than prophylaxis) bit.ly/43h2hgz - Readimask hack- no studies but Gerard Hughes on YT demonstrates success with a mask fit testing machine. People’s videos I watched demonstrating readimask technique (originally shared by nurse Lisa Foreman on Twitter): - @jaydo - @/covidcautiouscutie Apologies for the sped up talking- IG punishes videos >3 months Troll comments will be deleted Tags: Covid cautious, immunocompromised, long covid, long hauler, infection precautions, clean air, wear a mask, respirator, airborne infection
