Just a reminder to people cheering for this kind of thing...this isn’t going to “clean up Portland.” It will not address or solve the drug, mental health, or homelessness issues facing the Portland metro area. This is purely about targeting the roughly 15 ICE protestors who have been gathering around the ICE building in Portland. And knowing Portlanders, the presence of the National Guard will likely turn those 15 people into hundreds, making the situation worse. Portland is not a “war zone,” and when the general public complains about the city, their concerns are usually about homeless camps, drugs, and crime...not protestors. The National Guard isn’t going to deal with those problems. What they will do is cost millions of dollars and exacerbate the situation. Making Portland look way worse than it currently is.
