The ENITRE story is about their romance. It doesn’t have to fall into a strict romance category. The book would not exist if it wasn’t about their relationship. Why does it need to fall into a proper “genre expectation” your analogy with horror and jaws do NOT match the romance in this story. Again the entire book is their love story. A happy couple in jaws is not the plot? Do you see what I mean?

Your comparison is completely different than the book. Jaws was clearly not a romance. The movie is a completely different concept than the book. The book alchemized is entirely about this romance, and how this romance drove the characters to do very dark things. The romance drove the plot.

That first sentence !!!! Yes there is a romantic relationship between the two characters but SPOILERS!!! It's so clear that he is soo concerned for her because of what happened to his mother. She also says multiple times, "I'm so lonely I will accept anything as love" these two are extremely damaged, lonely people who find solace in one another

before I read poppy war trilogy, someone had told me that it was romance as well as a war book. I finished it all and I started questioning what people understood as romance. u can have romantic themes in a story yes, but that shouldnt be the main genre the book is advertised as lmaoo cos that was so misleading 💀

I've just finished alchemised. It would be a romance if Part 2 was actually Part 1. A romance has a meeting, a falling in love, complications that threaten to end the romance, overcoming the complications and a HEA. Swap Part 1 and Part 2 around and you have all of that. It's just with this story structure we see the complication first without knowing about the romance. The dark fantasy aspect is just a genre blend with romance.

Yes! Just because an element from a genre appears it doesn’t make the book that genre. There are paranormal and horror elements in acotar but we don’t call it paranormal/ horror series! That would make a LOT more stories romances if that was how it worked! XD

Not a romance book, but absolutely a dark fantasy love story. The love story is central to the plot. It literally moves the plot. Romance can be devastating too. I don’t think a HEA is necessarily needed for it to be a romance book. Plenty of romance books without them. The ending of this book can be interpreted in many ways, I personally thought it was romantic but devastating at the same time.
