@lsafguineapigs: We want to provide an important update regarding the situation involving the missing guinea pigs. We are relieved to share that all 25 guinea pigs have been located. Sadly, one of our beloved guinea pigs, Holly, did not survive. We are heartbroken by her loss, and we have taken her remains to be cremated with the care and respect she deserves. The remaining 24 guinea pigs are now safe and in our custody. The conditions in which these animals were found were deeply distressing. The guinea pigs had been confined to bathrooms, closets, and small rooms—without water, bedding, or proper ventilation. They were left on bare tile floors, where they were forced to live in their own urine and feces. In addition to our guinea pigs, the home contained two dogs, five unrelated guinea pigs, a bunny, and a cat, all of whom appeared to be in poor health and also living in highly unsanitary conditions. Law enforcement accompanied us during the recovery. With their guidance, we were able to locate and safely remove the animals from the premises. They assisted us in transporting the guinea pigs to our second location in Phoenix, where our team had already begun preparing enclosures and supplies for their arrival. We want to thank the police officers at the scene, Pima County Sheriffs and the detective on the case. Upon intake, all of the guinea pigs showed signs of severe dehydration—many had sunken eyes and began aggressively drinking water the moment it was made available. We immediately administered Critical Care, clean water, fresh hay, and medical support to stabilize them. Despite the trauma, they responded well to the initial care and were able to reunite with their guinea pig community. We will be sharing regular updates on their recovery process, including their current condition, veterinary treatments, and progress as they begin to heal from this traumatic experience. At this time, law enforcement is actively conducting an investigation into the case. We are fully cooperating and giving them the space they need to carry out a thorough and proper inquiry. We are grateful for the support from the community and all those who helped us in this recovery. Holly’s loss weighs heavily on us, but we remain committed to seeking justice and ensuring the health and safety of the animals in our care.
